Biobank Core Facility

Biobank Core Facility at the Sahlgrenska Academy was established in spring 2018. Biobank Core facility collaborates with Biobank West via the Swedish Research Council-funded research infrastructure Biobank Sweden and forms one of the nodes in Biobank Sweden. Biobank Sweden supports healthcare providers and universities with the aim to harmonize biobank activity across the country. In order to facilitate sample access for researchers, the universities in Gothenburg, Linköping, Lund, Stockholm, Umeå, Uppsala and Örebro have appointed national sample service-coordinators. These national service-coordinators will provide support to researchers in terms of collecting, accessing and analysing samples. They will also be essential for providing guidance to biobank services and existing cohorts/sample collections open to collaboration. The purpose is to stimulate research using Sweden’s rich biobanking sample collections.

Each node in Biobank Sweden has a national service center and development projects in designated areas of excellence. In the Västra Götaland County, the national responsibility is to focus on sample quality. The aim of our project is to identify biomarkers that plays pivotal role in sample quality assessment and thereby develop standard protocols, harmonizing sample handling.
